Leaves, leaves, and more leaves

The leaves are down, raked, shredded, and spread around some plants and heaped on the compost pile.  Who remembers jumping into huge piles of leaves as kids? We had 2 large maple trees in our yard and an older lady, 2 houses down, also had 2 large trees. We'd rake all our leaves into a pile and then rake her leaves and somehow get them up to our house.  I don't remember how we accomplished that.  Do kids today realize how much fun a pile of leaves is? We'd spend days playing in them.  I also don't remember how the pile was ever removed from the front yard or where it was removed to.  Every year, I wish for a child to be around so I would have an excuse to jump in a pile of leaves and not look like I've lost my mind!  Just the smell of takes me back to those childhood days.

Leaves surrounding and covering my alyssum.

Someplace in here, look real hard - you'll see some impatiens peeking through.

Mums and alyssum surrounded by leaves.

Lavender blooming a 2nd time and mums. I love the purple, gold, and orange together.

  1. What a beautiful palette of color. We have yet to shred our leaves, but it's on the "list". :)

  2. What a pretty combo-the mum with alyssum! Love the colors.
It's kind of sad nowadays with kids--they seem to prefer video games/computer time to being outdoors. They're missing out on some fine memories later on...........

  8. Thanks, Cindy. My pictures are nothing compared to some of the ones I see on various blogs, but I'm happy with my very old camera.

  9. I love the shot with the lavender. I have a huge maple in the yard and it takes me weeks of raking (in what spare moments I can find) to get it all cleaned up. Have a great weekend!

  10. Your flower beds look like mine, with patches of color poking through the leaves. My husband went out and mowed after work the other day, to make raking easier. The next door neighbors already put some of theirs on my compost pile, and I asked for the leaves of another neighbor who was raking. When our grandson saw the pile, he asked me to put him up there.

I remember jumping in the leaves, too. I have only done it once with our grandson this year, in the front yard, though. I didn't get into the compost bin with him. LOL

Great photos! I like all three colors of your mums.

Thanks for your comment on my foliage post.

  11. I love walking in the leaves while they're still crisp. I never did have a leaf pile to jump in... I don't think anyone rakes them here :-(
